The Dell Medical School is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant

Purpose

To serve as the primary point of contract throughout the cycle of care for patients served in assigned Ambulatory Care clinic at UT Health Austin. Acts as the team lead, providing oversight and direction to the medical assistant team of the assigned clinical care unit while also maintaining medical assisting duties. Reporting to the Nurse Supervisor or Nurse Manager, this role collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff. Key responsibilities include supervising medical assistants, providing direct patient care, managing patient flow, and maintaining medical supplies.

Responsibilities

Team Lead Responsibilities

  • Provide occasional working supervision to non-licensed medical and/or clerical office support personnel for clerical functions or other non-clinical activities.

  • Review training opportunities and provide suggestions for performance improvement with support from the clinic nurse manager or nurse supervisor.

  • Assist in training and mentorship of new medical assistants.

Direct Patient Care

  • Perform medical assistant duties to include (but not limited to); collecting vital signs, conducting patient assessments during clinic visits, assisting providers during patient exams, scheduling patient appointments, pre-certifying procedures, and answering patient phones messages.

Patient Flow Management

  • Review clinic schedule for opportunities to increase efficiency.

  • Facilitate patient flow and communicate delays with patients and clinical staff.

  • Communicate operational needs to clinic manager or supervisor, as appropriate.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, State and Federal regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in clinical areas.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.

Administrative Duties

  • Order and maintain inventory of medical supplies.
  • Assist with and help facilitate routine staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with other clinics and departments, ensuring seamless care for patients throughout the health system.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant. Relevant education or experience may be substituted as appropriate. Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree in Medical Assisting or related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical setting. Experience in a supervisory role. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

Salary Range

$48,000 + depending on qualifications
