Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) - 25-023 - Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, Virginia

AUSGAR Technologies has an exciting, NEW opportunity for a Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our team of smart and innovative technical team members working in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area of Virginia.

Provide cybersecurity engineering, Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) support for the Naval Expeditionary Programs. This position supports classified and unclassified system development, integration, accreditation and sustainment across multiple platforms, in compliance with DoD, DON and NIST cybersecurity requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and maintenance of RMF artifacts (SSPs, SCTMs, POA&Ms, Security Assessment Reports) for Navy systems.
  • Perform system security engineering for new and existing platforms, including secure architecture design and DISA STIG application.
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning, assessment and mitigation using approved DoD tools (ACAS, HBSS, Nessus, SCAP).
  • Provide technical guidance on cybersecurity best practices, security controls and secure coding/configuration requirements.
  • Support development of acquisition documentation, contract data requirements lists (CDRLs) and Security Impact Assessments (SIAs).
  • Ensure compliance with Navy cybersecurity policies, Operational Security (OPSEC) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling requirements.
  • Interface with government stakeholders to ensure cybersecurity requirements are met.
  • Support cybersecurity inspections, audits and authorization reviews.
  • Mentor junior cybersecurity engineers to ensure standardized security processes.
Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Must possess a DoD 8570/8140 IAM level II or IAT level III certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Primarily remote, with approximately 10% onsite work as needed.
  • Travel required up to 25%.
  • 8+ years in cybersecurity engineering with at least 4 years in a DoD/Navy RMF ISSE role.
  • Experience with DISA STIGs, NIST SP 800-53/800-171 and Navy cybersecurity tools.
  • Proficiency in eMASS and RMF Authorization to Operate (ATO)/Interim Authority to Test (IATT) processes.
  • Strong understanding of Navy acquisition and security (CDRLs).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Navy Expeditionary systems, such as CREW, JEOD, UWEOD or ExMED.
  • Knowledge of classified network environments (SIPRNet, JWICS).
  • Familiarity with Navy supply chain risk management and export control requirements.
