The College of Applied Humans Sciences at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a faculty position in the School of Sport Sciences. This position is a Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor for the Morgantown campus to begin January or August 2026.

The School of Sport Sciences serves approximately 1,400 students across 13-degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in sport management, sport, exercise, and performance psychology, sport leadership, coaching and performance science, health and well-being, and physical education and kinesiology. The School of Sport Sciences focuses on conducting and disseminating high quality research, preparing students to be leaders and innovators in their fields, and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the state and beyond through outreach. We are looking for highly qualified individuals who can contribute to this mission.

Appointment

January 10, 2026 or August 16, 2026. Faculty hired at the Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor level will be in an annual nine-month appointment that is promotable. Additional teaching opportunities may be available. Consideration of an appointment at the rank of Teaching Associate Professor, at minimum, requires five years of higher education and/or industry experience.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach in-person and online courses in the health and well-being major. Primary courses of instruction include program design, implementation, and evaluation for health educators, individual and community well-being, health coaching, and professional immersion experiences. The successful candidate will be expected to provide programmatic service that supports student recruitment, retention, and success, including course development and curricular innovation, possible clinical placement and program coordination as well as make contributions to the school, college, university, and profession, as applicable.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications

Required qualifications that must be met by time of appointment:



  • An earned doctoral degree in health education or a closely related area OR a master's degree in health education or a closely related area with extensive industry experience (at least three years) in health and wellness settings.
  • Demonstrated proof of creative and impactful teaching with undergraduate learners, including proficiency in online instructional formats.
  • Proven track record in driving innovation, showcasing resourcefulness, and consistently adopting a solutions-oriented approach to overcome challenges effectively.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and collaborative problem-solving abilities.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Evidence of professional certifications related to health and wellness, including Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), and/or Health Coaching from a recognized certifying body.
  • Experience working with special populations in clinical or medical contexts.
