Summary
The Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences (GMES) department is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar. You will join our research group to work on the DOE-funded CarbonSAFE CCUS project at Michigan Tech. The work will focus on building advanced reservoir simulation models coupled with geomechanics, performing risk assessments using NRAP tools, and contributing to leakage risk quantification and capacity evaluations for CO sequestration. This position includes a health, dental and vision insurance program.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
* Conduct reservoir simulation modeling for CO storage, integrating site-specific data and geomechanical coupling. * Perform leakage risk assessments using NRAP tools in conjunction with reservoir simulation results. * Update capacity estimates, injection performance, and mechanical integrity evaluations. * Collaborate with PI and project team to meet DOE CarbonSAFE project deliverables. * Prepare manuscripts and conference presentations based on research findings.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
* Ph.D. in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
Required Experience
* Demonstrated experience in reservoir simulation and coupled geomechanical modeling. * Experience with CO storage, CCUS, or subsurface fluid flow modeling.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
* Experience with NRAP tools and risk assessment modeling. * Prior experience with CCUS research projects. * Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) and parallel computing techniques.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
* Proficiency in reservoir simulation software and geomechanical coupling methods. * Strong quantitative and computational skills. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. * Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
* Familiarity with multi-physics modeling frameworks. * Experience with uncertainty quantification and sensitivity analysis.
