DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This trainee position involves the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment, along with a range of manual labor tasks as part of a highway or bridge maintenance crew. The individual in this role will undergo training aimed at obtaining the necessary licensing and certification to handle heavy construction machinery, specifically including Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) vehicles and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. As part of their training, the employee will learn to conduct and document essential pre- and post-operation inspections, ensuring that all equipment is safe to operate and minimizing wear through appropriate field adjustments. Additionally, the trainee will become proficient in using various hand and foot controls, adhering to safety protocols such as wearing seat belts, and managing tire chains on dual wheels. The position also encompasses various manual labor responsibilities, including flagging and traffic control, which are critical for maintaining safety and efficiency on highway and bridge maintenance projects.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Shifts may vary: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM; 4:00 PM to 12:00 midnight or 12:00 midnight to 8:00 AM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require overtime as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.
  • Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
