Responsibilities and Expectations:

Work independently and as part of a team with other engineers on the development of standard and prototype equipment that will be manufactured to meet customer's needs. Research, develop, design and test electrical components, equipment and systems to match client specifications to include switchgear, auxiliary components from 480V to 15kV, automatic transfer schemes, standby generators and paralleling equipment, motor control centers, transformers and UPS.

  • Report to Engineering Manager. Projects will be assigned based on skill sets, workload and schedule. Project complexity and duration vary widely. There is a continuous flow of projects types throughout the year and most engineers typically are working on several simultaneously.
  • Work as part of a multi-discipline team in the conceptual design, manufacture, testing and start-up of equipment, buildings, enclosures and complex assemblies for commercial, industrial and military purposes.
  • Projects involve reviewing customer statement of work, creation of manufacturing drawings, procurement of materials and support of manufacture, testing, installation and commissioning. Some site surveying required at industrial locations.
  • Coordination with electrical engineers for projects with power and controls.
  • Prepare complete and accurate bills of material related to project for release to purchasing.
  • Coordinate project activities to ensure that deliverables meet the schedule.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to support their activities.
  • Ensure that finished product meets with customer requirements and quality.
  • Adhere to all company policies.
  • Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.).
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Report all injuries, near misses and accidents immediately to a supervisor.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of (7) years' (post degree) experience as a Mechanical Engineer, preferably in a highly customized manufacturing environment. PE license an advantage.
  • Extensive experience of 3D Modelling using SolidWorks and conversion to manufacture drawings for parts and assemblies. Ability to use AutoCAD.
  • Able to pick materials required to construct the job and develop Bills of Materials. Knowledge of MRP systems is imperative.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask, as several projects will be in process simultaneously with different levels of completion.
  • Knowledge of the following:
  • Manufacturing parts from sheet metals such as galvanneal, stainless steel, aluminum
  • Structural and sheet metal welding, with ability to create and read weldment drawings
  • Diesel engines, exhaust systems, alternators, pumps, fuel tanks
  • Prefabricated building design, air-conditioning, high wind loading, lifting
  • Communication with other groups - Production, Purchasing, Scheduling, Quality, Suppliers
  • Ability to build relationships and mentor junior engineers
  • Experience with Safety, Quality, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, ISO
  • Ability to work with unit teams in various levels and manage projects as needed
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Participates in meetings
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
