The Opportunity

Genentech's Cell Banking organization is seeking a highly motivated cell culture Technical Development Scientist I to support various aspects of R&D and GMP Cell Bank production. The Cell Banking group is responsible for generating cell banks in support of both clinical and commercial drug substance manufacturing. In addition, the Cell Banking group is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving the Cell Banking processes in both the R&D and GMP environment. The work also includes providing scientific and technical judgment as part of a team responsible for delivering high quality biopharmaceutical products to patients. Integrity, accountability, and strong dedication to the patients we serve are critical to this role.

As a Technical Development Scientist I within Bioprocess Development (Cell Banking), you are responsible for:

  • Adhering to all applicable compliance and safety requirements, cGMPs, SOPs, and other manufacturing documents

  • Monitoring and analyzing manufacturing data as necessary to provide support for process discrepancies, equipment troubleshooting, investigations, or development activities.

  • Support of regulatory inspections and filings

  • Creating, owning, and/or reviewing discrepant events, investigations, change records, and risk management documents for Cell Banking, as needed* Work under GMP conditions including following & proposing improvements to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), manufacturing tickets and forms.

  • Work a standard M-F schedule, a minimum of 40 hours/week. Some weekend/holiday work may be required.

Who you are
  • We are seeking candidates with strong technical and leadership capabilities.

  • A BS/MS in Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.

  • Solid understanding of mammalian (CHO) cell culture and cryopreservation techniques.

  • Experience with equipment validation/qualification for GMP use.

  • Proven track record of working together with a highly productive and collaborative technical team.

  • Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with partners, customers, and collaborators.

  • Proven track record of excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $84,600 - 157,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
