Primary Purpose:Assists the Ophthalmologists and Optometrists in all fields of clinical care, including the maintenance of ophthalmology equipment, patient screening, and minor surgical procedures, to support the diagnostic testing and care of the patient. In addition, performs supervisory role over the Ophthalmology Assistants/Technicians, to include making schedules, providing educational support, delegating assignments/tasks, and providing objective input toward annual evaluations. Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates a subspecialty clinical practice in the Department of Ophthalmology at PHHS 2. Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with COPC's and OPC at PHHS 3. In conjunction with the ophthalmological subspecialty staff, determines goals and objectives for optimum service to patients and their family members 4. Monitors success and notes areas of clinic improvement (such as appointment availability), and identifies ways to improve work processes, patient service and satisfaction, recommending to manager areas of improvement within the Parkland network 5. Designs and executes an effective system of internal controls, ensuring efficient clinic-patient flow, and synergetic provider-patient scheduling 6. Attends in-services and continuing education clinics to ensure on-going certification. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. 7. Identifies ways to improve work processes, customer service and satisfaction, recommending to supervisor areas of potential improvement. 8. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the ophthalmic area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. 9. Delegates appropriate tasks and assignments to the Ophthalmology Assistant staff and conducts follow-up to assure completion and accuracy of delegated tasks. 10. Assists Nurse Manager with evaluations of Ophthalmology Assistants staff by providing objective input as appropriate. Daily oversight of multiple clinical sites for appropriate staffing. Filling as an Technician when needed. Making changes/improvements as needed. Troubleshooting clinic equipment issues/problems; communicating with Clinical Engineering or vendor when needed.
