Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, oversees the infrastructure of care support and life education, including case management processes, data tracking and reporting, life skills programming, and coordination of institutional responses to students in distress. Responsible for managing the University's care referral and behavioral intervention systems, providing direct support to students experiencing complex challenges. Serves as a core member of the Student Success Team (SST), the Behavioral Intervention Team (TU HEART), and the Core Retention Team (CRT), leads risk assessment processes, and provides direct crisis intervention when needed. Oversees the Dean of Students Persistence Fund and ensures proper stewardship of resources provided to support students facing financial or personal hardship.

Uses a high level of judgment, compassion, and cross-functional leadership, with a strong commitment to equity, well-being, and student-centered care.

JOB DUTIES

Student Care Support:

  • Responsible for processing all incoming Care Referrals by applying the University's risk assessment protocols to determine the appropriate level of intervention-whether through the Student Success Team (SST) or the Behavioral Intervention Team (TU HEART)-and initiating timely outreach to students. Manages a caseload of complex cases involving academic, emotional, behavioral, and personal challenges, while also supporting students referred through campus partners, self-referral, or upon re-entry to the University. Support may take the form of 1:1 or group coaching, mentoring, mediation, or life skills development. As a core member of both SST, TU HEART and CRT, participates in weekly meetings, activates TU HEART when needed, and coordinates communication, including proposing initial risk ratings and preparing weekly meeting agendas. Provides guidance to faculty, staff, and students on the Care Referral process and campus resources and oversees transitional support programming for students returning from academic probation, temporary withdrawal, or other interruptions-helping them re-engage and move forward with confidence. Works with the Chairs of SST and TUHEART to educate the campus community about the Student Care Referral process and various mental health entry points for support and care.

Life Education:

  • Builds and sustains strong partnerships across campus-including with Academic Advising, Academic Support, Chapel & Spiritual Life, Financial Services, Housing & Dining Services, Integrated Health & Wellness, International Student Services, the Provost's Office, Student Accessibility Services, Residential Life, and faculty-to co-sponsor programs that support student well-being and life readiness. Designs and facilitates non-clinical, skill-based life education workshops focused on addressing sub-clinical mental health needs such as time management, stress navigation, conflict resolution, decision-making, communication, and healthy habits, complementing and building upon the work already taking place in academic, counseling, and wellness areas. In addition to group programming, offers 1:1 and small-group coaching for students navigating personal, academic, or transitional challenges-centering conversations around values, empowerment, and goal-setting. To further support student development, creates self-guided resources like toolkits, tip sheets, videos, and digital modules that offer practical strategies for everyday challenges and promote student agency, inner development, and individual and community flourishing. Ensures work is in alignment with the Divisional Learning and Development goals of Culture of Care, Becoming, and Readiness.

Budget:

  • Oversees the Dean of Students Persistence Fund ($30,000) including budget management, receiving student requests, processing approvals, and reporting on outcomes.

Committee Engagement:

  • Serves as an engaged and collaborative campus partner by participating in various University and Divisional committees, task forces, and strategic planning work groups as needed. Involvement ensures that the student experience and support services are meaningfully represented in institutional decision-making processes. Work includes contributing to the development and implementation of strategic goals, offering insight into student needs and trends, and helping to shape initiatives that align with the University's mission and values.

Reporting and Assessment:

  • Responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting, including maintenance of weekly Care Referral data analytics dashboard, as well as end-of-semester and academic year reports. Prepares additional data reports for the Office of the Dean of Students, as needed, as well as an annual end of year assessment presentation to campus stakeholders.
