What to Expect
As an Equipment Joining Technician you will be reporting to the Joining Engineering Manager. This is position has an AWS shift pattern with day or night shifts available. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide guidance, correction, and documentation to operations teams in all BIW shops regarding breakdowns, continuous improvements, and standardization. The candidate should be able to independently create and implement sustaining practices with standardized procedures that serve as guideline for preventive maintenance, failure mode identification and fast response on breakdowns (proven hands on is required).

What You'll Do
  • Respond to production downtime and support breakdown recovery of joining equipment. Diagnose joining equipment faults and joint non-conformance and implement corrective actions. Coordinate joint validation with cross-functional teams to ensure joint conformance
  • Maintain joining process applications implementing best practices with the goal to improve equipment longevity, process quality and controlled preventive procedures. Fault examples: resistance checks, blowhole recovery, C-factor, hi/low current, tip dress faults, excessive adhesive squeeze out, mislocated laser brazing seam, wire feed issues, remote welding cooling systems, cover lenses, etc.
  • Extensive theorical and proven hands-on experience working with welding and joining technologies using Kuka and Fanuc robots in BIW, including equipment and process operation to successfully respond to alarms and determine root cause while troubleshooting an issue during production
  • Fully understand robot positions and speed to diagnose expulsion, arcing, adhesive application, stick-out, tip dress, cooling, contamination, nugget form / size / location, etc.
  • Support projects during factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, validation, and transfer of ownership to production teams related to manufacturing engineering CapEx projects along with its joint development & validation lead by Engineering
  • Study technologies to expert-level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead implemented technologies to achieve structured improvement & standardization plans with long term vision to achieve company and department objectives
  • Support / assist Maintenance in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures. Provide technical training to maintenance, production, and other internal resource groups. Working in a hands-on capacity in a production environment to fully understand scope, impact, and associated challenges. Provide technical support to production, maintenance, quality, and other groups as required

What You'll Bring
  • Technical degree or certification or proven equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with joining equipment and processes for BIW automotive: Self piercing rivet, remote welding, spot welding, material dispensing, and laser braze
  • Proficient in downtime and daily pass down reports along with root cause analysis documentation
  • Full hands-on and understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
  • Understanding quality reports and their failure modes is a plus
  • Kuka & Fanuc experience for day-to-day joining process (robot path & position teaching is a plus)
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group along with effective communication skills, both verbal and written

    Expected Compensation
    $32.00 - $48.27/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
