This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As Senior Software Manager of the Integrated Simulation for the MK2 Lander, you will directly support program execution of crewed lunar vehicles by overseeing the development and integration of simulation software to be used for development, operations training, and hardware in the loop test activities.

You will work directly with NASA and as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in establishing the Lunar Permanence systems that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for advising the technical team on developing software simulation products that meet mission objectives and requirements, while also considering cost, schedule, and risk factors.
  • Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a dedicated team of specialists and engineers.
  • Manage your direct reports' professional development (e.g., performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and mentor them on performance.
  • Establish detailed plans to achieve targets and monitor adherence to critical performance indicators such as technical specifications, financial parameters, project schedules, and potential risks, ensuring regular updates to management and the team.
  • Perform technical work and provide technical leadership of the highest degree.
  • Supervise technical progress, requirements, budget, schedule, work and risks as well as review recommendations for change with program management.
  • Apply good engineering and business judgment to ensure the most efficient and effective product is built, tested, and delivered.
  • Develop product roadmaps, working with internal and external customers to understand how your product integrates to meet current and future mission needs.
  • Work independently toward long-range objectives without appreciable direction and set technical objectives of assignments to develop approaches to solutions.
  • Embody, promote, and mentor the Blue Origin leadership principles.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience with human rated space vehicle flight or support software development.
  • Experience with safety critical applications and safety standards.
  • 5+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and mentoring employees.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including leading requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering or another technical field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Development experience in support of Human Spaceflight.
  • Familiarity with NPR 7150.2D.
  • Familiar with agile project management.
  • Knowledge of simulation frameworks and digital twins.
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • Experience managing subcontracts.

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $175,867.00-$246,213.45;WA applicants is $191,265.00-$267,771.00

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
