Posting Summary |
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Chief of Staff and Vice Chancellor for Strategy and Operations. Reporting directly to the Chancellor as a member of the Chancellor's cabinet, this position will work closely and collaboratively with all members of the Chancellor's senior leadership team, faculty, staff and students at Rutgers University-Newark, as well as with university leaders and partners, community and alumni stakeholders.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Serves as a confidential advisor to the Chancellor
- Coordinates between departments to ensure alignment across academic, administrative and external affairs
- Manages the administrative duties in the Office of the Chancellor and in advancing the leadership agenda through coordinated planning and connections with the senior leadership team and through various assignments and special projects
- Plans and directs administrative and operational activities on behalf of the Chancellor, organizing and prioritizing and solving critical issues, managing day-to-day logistics for the Chancellor, and ensuring effectiveness and efficiency
- Responsible for decision-making, sometimes on behalf of the Chancellor and always with a commitment to the strategy and mission of Rutgers University-Newark
- Oversees strategic development and successful implementation and management of the Chancellor's initiatives and campus goals
- Provides direct managerial responsibility of key administrative staff in the Chancellor's Office and will be tasked with their general supervision, but will also be responsible for developing a productive and effective administrative support team in the Office of the Chancellor

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of eight to ten years of professional experience in the administration of an institution of higher education required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Excellent oral, writing and overall communication skills required
- Successful professional experience in working with wide array of constituencies is also required
- Proven ability to serve executive leadership confidentially and efficiently.
- Strong capabilities in strategic thinking, systems integration, project management and analytical and problem-solving
- Experience in managing complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, juggling long-term projects with urgent and immediate demands, and making the appropriate decisions regarding what should be the priority at any given moment
- Manages confidential and sensitive information with integrity and caution, and bring credit to the Office of the Chancellor and to the University

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's, JD or PhD is strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge and understanding of higher education operations is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience at the executive level in administration and planning
- Familiarity with all Rutgers campuses and with Rutgers policies, procedures, and practices strongly preferred

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
