About the Job

Applications are invited for one (1) position as a temporary/casual Front Desk Assistant at the Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC), 2001 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411. UROC's programs are committed to developing lasting partnerships with urban communities based on mutual respect and benefit. The staff, programs, and affiliates of UROC will pursue community-based and community-defined research that contributes to the vitality and well-being of the Northside and other urban neighborhoods of the Twin Cities. UROC is part of the Office of the Vice Provost of Public Engagement

The person in this position will serve as the UROC receptionist and will also provide part-time clerical support to the UROC leadership team. The receptionist may also provide limited assistance to others in the facility. This will be an hourly, part-time position for less than 14 hours per week. The hours will usually be between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays, but weekend hours are dependent on scheduled events.

Job Responsibilities

Receptionist (60%)

  • Greet visitors and callers and provide information about UROC activities and events; help visitors find other University resources as appropriate; keep the facility organized; assist clients with needs relating to UROC rooms; provide referral services for programs in the building; monitor security cameras.

Clerical Support (20%)

  • Assist with small projects such as printing fliers, stuffing letters, and organizing giveaways.

Calendar/Scheduling (10%)

  • Assist UROC guests and clients with understanding reservation calendar; place temporary holds on rooms as appropriate.

Document Processing (10%)

  • Organize and help assess room requests and users' needs; confirm dates and determine cost; work with the Office Coordinator and Front Desk Team to assist with completion of documents.
  • Perform other duties related to the UROC operation as requested.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and one year of experience in a customer service role
  • Experience with keyboarding/data entry
  • Experience managing schedules and using electronic calendars
  • Experience dealing with the public in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with community organizations and/or in a higher education setting
  • Experience working in urban community
  • Experience working successfully in a complex office environment with multiple projects
  • Experience working collaboratively with communities of color and/or immigrant communities
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to multi-task, to function effectively in a changing work environment, and to take direction from several senior team members
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $17.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
