STGi is currently seeking a Clinical Education Registered Nurse (RN) to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home.



The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families.



JOB SUMMARY: To support the community by creating a premier health care community accomplished by planning, revising, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating education including general orientation, and skills training. Also, by serving as a member of QAPI committee and being responsible for meeting training needs that are identified during QAPI committee.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1. Work cooperatively with the Administrator, Director of Nursing Services, and community in assessing training/education needs. Plans programs to meet these needs and regulatory requirements.


2. Ensures all nursing assistants hired have completed a certification program meeting state requirements.


3. Ensures and maintains files of lesson plans for all programs taught to team members. Ensures records of all programs are maintained for 7 years.


4. Maintains a current schedule of all students and outside instructors who may be in the community doing clinical training.


5. Oversees current nursing tracking log for education according to license and regulatory requirements.



Orientation and Job Skills


1. Coordinates general orientation for all new team members beginning the first day of employment.


2. Reviews and revises general orientation on an on-going basis as necessary, utilizing company orientation guidelines.


3. Ensures the validity of certificates and their good standing for all CNAs hired.


4. Ensures the validity of all nursing licenses through state board of nursing during pre-hire and as needed.


5. Evaluate education and training to develop programs that maintain and enhance nursing clinical skills


6. Responsible nursing complete hours of required mandatory training during the required time period.


7. Ensures completion of skills demonstration on all new hired clinical care workers validating competency to perform care tasks they will be assigned prior to providing direct resident care.


8. Provide skill training to any nursing team members that are deficient in any skill area


9. Responsible for completion of and maintaining of competency skills for licensed nurses


10. Responsible to provide hands on care oversight to nursing team members. Coaching and teaching at bedside where appropriate


11. Responsible to be knowledgeable about skill needs of the center and adjust training and education to meet those needs


12. Responsible for identifying training/education needs and develops training interventions to resolve problems/issues of nursing


13. Participates in nursing team member hiring process to include responsibilities for recruitment, interviewing, and selection of these positions in collaboration with the Director of Nursing


14. Coordinate all nursing team member in-services, ensuring mandatory topics are included annually, using consultants or other resources where appropriate.


15. Notify nursing regarding any updates or new requirements as needed from: NACS (Nurse Assistant Certification Section) or the State Board of Nursing for licensed nurses.


16. Supports the clinical infrastructure of the community, involved in Clinical Start Up process


17. May be required to fulfill the job functions of a direct care nurse as determined by the needs of the patients/residents and community



Infection Control


1. Serves as the Infection Preventionist in the center. Responsible for surveillance, evaluating trends and responding with any training or reporting needs


2. Responsible for reporting findings from Infection Control surveillance and the nosocomial rate monthly to the QAPI committee

Required Skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


Must have a current and valid RN nursing license or eligible to obtain a Texas RN license. Experience in long term care along with strong computer skills required.

Required Experience

REQUIRED EDUCATION:


Valid RN nursing license required.


Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required prior to performing work, preferably from American Heart Association (AHA), or have the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment.

The physical demands and work environment described herein is a representative of those that generally must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:


*This position primarily involves standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing and pulling (typical weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 30 lbs., approximately), and lifting (minimum weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 100 lbs., approximately)


* The position requires repetitive finger movements as well as hearing and talking on the phone and in person.


* Must be able to continuously deal effectively with stress created by residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant attitude
