This position is designed as Hybrid.

This position requires CJIS fingerprints. This position also requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in business intelligence, data warehousing, programming, or business systems analysis. An associate degree in a related field may substitute for the bachelor's. Relevant experience may substitute for education up to two years.

Overview

Under general supervision, the Business Intelligence Specialist - Intermediate supports the design, development, and maintenance of business intelligence (BI) solutions. This role helps analyze source data, build reports and dashboards, and troubleshoot BI-related issues to support data-driven decision-making. This class is flexibly staffed with and differs from Information Systems Associate, in that an incumbent of the latter learns to perform the administrative and technical duties related to the design, development and maintenance of an information system or business intelligence technology solution as a member of a project team. This class differs from that of Business Intelligence Specialist-Advanced in that an incumbent of the latter independently designs, develops and maintains components of business intelligence technology solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain BI reports, queries, and dashboards based on customer requirements.
2. Translate user requirements into queries, visualizations, and reusable dashboard templates (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
3. Assist in analyzing source systems and building logical data models.
4. Implement and tune Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and validate data accuracy, troubleshoot data-load errors and performance bottlenecks.
5. Perform data validation and testing to ensure business needs are met.
6. Troubleshoot reporting and data anomalies, escalating issues when necessary.
7. Document business processes, use cases, and technical solutions for long-term maintainability. Maintain data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, and how-to guides to support knowledge transfer and audit readiness.
8. Support data integrity, system performance monitoring, and adherence to configuration standards.
9. Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify reporting needs and enhance BI functionality.
