The Product Design team drives the design strategy for Optum Insight's modern SaaS solutions. In collaboration with the Applied Insights & Research team, we are responsible for the user experience of our products, including the visual, tactile, and emotional aspects, using human-centered methodologies and a mature and user-validated Enterprise Design Language.

As a Principal UX Engineer (Product Designer), you will work with a team of other senior designers and collaborate with researchers, developers and product managers to create best-in-class, interoperable and modern SaaS solutions using human-centered methodologies.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create functional prototypes, static mockups as well as textual specifications - each describing in as much detail and fidelity as possible the intended user-observable behavior of the final product
  • Leverage AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation by streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks. Evaluate emerging trends to drive continuous improvement and strategic innovation
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including UX Leads, Product Managers and Development Managers to identify, plan, prioritize and implement project design activities
  • Participate in gathering research insights and concept testing to inform design decisions
  • Perform design duties for one or more projects to meet UX, technical, and business needs
  • Advocate for user-centered design including research and accessibility
  • Leverage and contribute to existing design pattern libraries and interface guidelines
  • Critique in-progress design work, evaluating the priority and effectivity of solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of UX design experience, including creating wireframes and prototypes to communicate design concepts
  • 10+ years of experience participating in user research and concept testing with real users
  • 10+ years of demonstrated understanding of mature user-centered design and research practices with a deep background and bias towards simplicity, elegance, and minimalism.
  • Portfolio of relevant user experience project deliverables, including demonstrated experience in AI/ML and emerging technologies
  • Proven excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences at various levels of our organization including executive leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Information Architecture, Communications, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with enterprise software, B2B applications or large employee-facing systems in the medical, healthcare or financial domains.
  • Knowledge of UX- related analytics, metrics, and measurement techniques
  • Deep understanding of Figma, generative design tools, LLMs and computational design methodologies
  • Proven ability managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven involvement in the UX community (e.g. associations, meet-ups, clubs, conferences).
  • Proven collaborative, low-ego approach to working with others

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
