HR Operations Lead LOCATION: Remote, U.S. JOB STATUS: Full-time CLEARANCE: N/A CERTIFICATION: SHRM-CP or PHR preferred TRAVEL: As Needed Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an HR Operations Lead that can be filled remotely from any state where Astrion does business. The HR Operations Lead is responsible for optimizing HR operational practices and procedures, mentoring the HR Operations team of generalists and coordinators, supporting day-to-day transactional workflow, and providing expertise on HR systems and processes. The HR Operations Lead ensures HR operations run efficiently, confidently interprets policy guidance, takes accountability for data and reporting accuracy, and ensures processes are compliant with industry, state and federal regulations. This role reports directly to the Director of HR Strategy and Operations. Key Responsibilities
- Completed Staff Work: The HR Operations Lead is expected to exercise skilled judgement and deliver completed staff work-fully developed summaries and recommendations ready for leader review and timely decision making.
- Operational Management & Guidance: Mentor and lead the HR Operations team on daily operations, systems, and workflows. Ensure HR operational processes comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Take ownership for accurate employee records and HR data integrity. Apply systems thinking, serving as a resource for employee lifecycle questions and system/process troubleshooting.
- Systems Administration & Process Support: Serve as account administrator for systems such as Sterling background investigations, E-Verify, including troubleshooting issues and creating new accounts. Act as HR Operations contact for business systems collaborations with HRIS and IT business systems partners in close coordination with the Director, HR Strategy & Operations. Take ownership of operational workflows and identify opportunities for improvement, optimizing efficiency and employee experience.
- Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects: Partner with HR leadership to enhance operational practices and implement process improvements. Serve as HR Operations contact for HR projects, including system upgrades and new program startups. Stay informed on HR operations best practices and emerging trends, contributing to strategic transformation projects and policy reviews.
Required Qualifications/Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Experience: 4 - 10 years of progressive experience in HR Operations or related roles.
- HR Capabilities: Must have an in-depth understanding of the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, payroll, benefits, performance management, and offboarding/termination. Demonstrated understanding of employment laws, regulations, and HR compliance requirements, while handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Technical Knowledge: Expertise in HRIS systems such as UltiPro (UKG), Deltek Costpoint, and iCIMS Applicant Tracking System. Experience serving as an administrator and troubleshooter for third-party vendors/partners such as Sterling background investigations and E-Verify, including account setup and issue resolution.
- Operational Leadership: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build relationships, mentor and lead through influence, example and training.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to influence leaders at all levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills
- Certification: SHRM-CP or PHR preferred
- GovCon HR Compliance: Experience supporting HR in a government contracting environment, including knowledge of Service Contract Labor Standards (SCLS), FLSA, and EEO/OFFCP compliance.
- HR Project Management: Experience supporting HR process improvements, HR system implementations, or operational projects for mid-sized to large organizations.
