Job Summary:

The Brain, Body, Biome, and Behavior Health Laboratory (B4Health Lab) is seeking an instructor-level Bilingual Clinical Research Social Worker to support multidisciplinary research focused on chronic health conditions, psychiatric outcomes, and suicide prevention. This role combines direct clinical expertise with applied research skills to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of studies and operational projects. The ideal clinician will be fluent in Spanish and English and will engage with diverse populations, providing culturally and linguistically appropriate assessments, interventions, and follow-up, while contributing to data collection, analysis, and dissemination efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical & Participant Engagement (60%)

  • Conduct clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and brief interventions in both English and Spanish for study participants.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care aligned with research, or operational protocols.
  • Monitor participant well-being, identifying and addressing psychosocial needs and referring to community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines for clinical and research practice.

Research Activities (20%)

  • Collaborate with investigators on study design, recruitment strategies, and culturally responsive data collection tools.
  • Collect, enter, and manage quantitative and qualitative data in accordance with IRB-approved or operational protocols.
  • Assist in analyzing outcomes and preparing reports, presentations, and manuscripts for academic and community audiences.
  • Contribute to grant writing and program development activities to sustain and expand research initiatives.

Collaboration & Consultation (20%)

  • Partner with university, healthcare, VA, and/or military colleagues to ensure the integration of clinical insights into research design and interpretation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on cultural competence, bilingual service delivery, and community engagement strategies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and ongoing training to advance research and clinical skills.
  • Assist with efforts aimed at highlighting research lab efforts and productivity including but not limited to required reports and public facing dissemination tools.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) programs span the range of services with the latest advances in rehabilitation care for children and adults with complex medical needs. Subspecialties, related programs and affiliates together embody one of the most skilled (and recognized) groups of rehabilitation experts in the nation. The PM&R department has 15 offices with ~2500 square feet of space and 5 cubicles with ~400 square feet of space for faculty and research staff. PM&R has 11 full-time administrative staff, responsible for department coordination, grants and contract management, and technology management.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

* Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW); active licensure (e.g., LCSW) required.

* Professional fluency in both English and Spanish; strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.

* Experience working with individuals with chronic health conditions, psychiatric disorders, or elevated suicide risk.

* Familiarity with cognitive behavioral interventions and suicide risk assessment protocols.

* Experience working with diverse populations, including immigrants, refugees, or other underserved communities.

* Clinical experience in mental health, case management, or psychosocial care.

* Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience conducting clinical and/or qualitative interviews, including transcribing qualitative interviews.

* Experience with veterans, military families, or populations affected by trauma.

* Familiarity with trauma-informed care and suicide prevention protocols.

* Prior involvement in health-related research, data collection, or grant writing.

* Background in academic or clinical training environments (e.g., VA, university hospitals).

* Strong interest in working with vulnerable or underserved populations.

* Knowledge of IRB and research compliance standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills and communication, ability to interact in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner with a diverse population affected by chronic health and mental conditions.
  • Comfortable working with chronic health and at-risk patient populations.
  • Skilled with use of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap) and electronic medical record systems (e.g., EPIC).
  • Case management background.
  • Strong work ethic, high level of organization, independent worker.
  • Demonstrate fluency and clarity in written communication.
  • Display clear, personally sensitive, and culturally competent verbal communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the capacity to coordinate multi-site activities.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: $80,000 to $100,000
