LOCATION: Remote - This is a home based, virtual position that operates Monday - Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm (EST). Vaya Health welcomes applications from NC, SC, GA, TN, VA, MD, and FL.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Business Communications Specialist primarily works under the direction of the Business Communications Manager to support Vaya Health's operational excellence by ensuring business materials and provider communications adhere to professional style guidelines and are clear, accurate, and consistent across the organization. This position assists with reviewing, editing, and fact-checking an array of external and internal written materials. Additionally, this position helps edit and distribute weekly and urgent Provider Communication Bulletins and assists with reviewing regulatory materials prior to submission to state and other oversight authorities. Alongside the Business Communications Manager, this position works with internal departments to ensure business communications are tailored to the appropriate audience, advance the organization's strategic objectives, and enhance customer service to health plan members and network providers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Collaborates with and assists the Business Communications Manager with the following:

  • Reviews, edits, and/or formats business materials created by internal subject matter experts, including letter templates, forms, website copy, presentations, one-pagers, training materials, educational resources, reports, resource guides, telephone service line scripts, regulatory materials, and other miscellaneous business materials
  • Ensures materials adhere to professional writing standards, applicable written style guides, and organizational brand guidelines
  • Fact-checks written materials and proactively resolves questions or concerns with internal subject matter experts
  • Edits and distributes weekly and urgent Provider Communication Bulletins and Special Communications for providers via Constant Contact
  • Maintains and updates the Vaya Written Style Guide
  • Works with Vaya's Regulatory Affairs and Quality Management departments to provide required documentation for external quality reviews and accreditation activities
  • Assists Vaya staff in developing effective content that aligns with the organization's strategic goals
  • Maintains a current, working knowledge of the NC Medicaid Style Guide and the Associated Press Stylebook
  • Meets review, submission, and/or publication deadlines
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Professional writing and editing skills
  • Diverse writing and editing skills with the ability to pivot from one writing style to another
  • Strong knowledge of and adherence to AP Style
  • Solid understanding of organizational operations in a managed care organization and knowledge of NC Medicaid is preferred
  • Skilled in heath literacy and clear communication strategies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interviewing and gathering information from sources at all levels in the organization, compiling information, and editing
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Constant Contact or other email marketing platforms preferred
  • Ability to manage responsibilities across different projects involving multiple departments
  • Detail oriented with a strong desire to produce high quality work
  • Customer service-oriented

Must have ability to write using correct English usage, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in public relations, journalism, and/or related fields. Experience in health and health-related fields is preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Communications, journalism, liberal arts, or health/human services required.

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in public relations, journalism, and/or related fields

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparation and analysis of documents; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
  • Physical activity in this position includes crouching, reaching, walking, talking, hearing and repetitive motion of hands, wrists and fingers.
  • Sedentary work with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds, sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Mental concentration is required in all aspects of work.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: The person in this position must live in NC, SC, GA, TN, VA, MD, or FL.


SALARY: Depending on qualifications & experience of candidate. This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
