The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Variable Hours Officer (VHO) Brain Bank Coordinator will be responsible for administrative work related to the movement disorders brain bank within the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center.. This includes enrolling interested patients in the brain donation program, coordinate monthly interdepartmental case conferences, outreach, maintaining and organizing the brain bank database and coordination of distribution of brain tissue to scientific collaborators.

Responsibilities



  • Enrollment in brain donation program

    • Distribute brain donation information packet to patients interested in brain donation.
    • Answer basic questions about brain donation to interested patients
    • Maintain an organized list of potential donors
    • Reach out to prospective donors


  • Coordinating Clinicopathological Conferences (CPC) monthly

    • Coordinate schedule of CPC conferences of recently donated brains
    • Coordinate and obtain medical records for movement disorders fellow to present
    • Coordinate with movement disorders fellow, pathologist, and family regarding conference date and meeting links
    • Record and disseminate recording to family after the conference


  • Maintaining database of past brain donations

    • Ensure all donors have medical records, CPC conference presentations and pathology report


  • Coordinate distribution of tissue with collaborators


    • Initiate materials transfer agreement (MTA)
    • Coordinate with pathology regarding obtaining tissue


  • Outreach - Designing and dissemination of material with information regarding the brain bank

    • Attend community health events


  • Other responsibilities at the discretion of the PI
  • This is a part-time position requiring a commitment of 10 hours/month


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Exceptionally organized candidate with experience in organizing meetings and events
  • Experience in using video meeting platforms (Zoom/Teams) and Microsoft Office
  • Impeccable bedside manner in discussing sensitive topics
  • Experience with IRB
