Position Summary: The Nutrition Specialist is a part-time position that works directly with youth in schools and community centers, using the Go!Chefs Curriculum and recipe book. Specialists teach nutrition and culinary education classes 1-5 days per week during afterschool hours throughout the school year and Summer Rising program.

Essential Duties:



  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Lead in-person nutrition and cooking classes for youth, implementing the Go!Chefs curriculum through hands-on cooking instruction, nutrition education, activities, and reflection.
  • Ensure safety and effective class management.
  • Maintain cooking equipment and procure food for lessons.
  • Communicate with Site Directors and the Go!Chefs Program Manager regarding class progress and needs.
  • Support program evaluation and data collection, including but not limited to:

    • Administering and collecting youth pre- and post-surveys at the start and end of each cycle.
    • Assisting with the annual youth cooking skills assessment (Mise En Place Challenge).
    • Collecting qualitative data (photos, anecdotes, success stories, etc.).


  • Facilitate discussions on kitchen self-sufficiency, nutrition, and the health benefits of fruits, vegetables, and whole foods.
  • Train and coach, a team of seven students for the annual Iron Go!Chefs competition, ensuring all tasks and responsibilities are completed on time.
  • Collaborate with Go!Healthy leadership to plan and execute special projects and events.
  • Be a positive role model for youth.
  • Travel required to multiple sites.
  • Attend quarterly in-person trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Two years of experience working with youth in a community setting.
  • Associate's degree in a related field; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One year of experience in community nutrition and/or culinary education.


Key Competencies:



  • Dynamic educator with two years of youth development experience.
  • Able to relate to youth between the ages of 5 to 13 years old.
  • Basic culinary skills, including recipe reading, measuring (dry & liquid), basic knife skills, and overall kitchen confidence.
  • Ability to effectively teach youth nutrition concepts and basic cooking techniques.
  • Commitment to following the Go!Chefs curriculum and recipes.
  • Willingness to continually develop skills in youth engagement, lesson implementation, and curriculum understanding.
  • Energetic, highly organized, creative, resourceful, and capable of managing multiple projects efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and reliable, with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Spanish fluency preferred for certain sites.
