Position Highlights

We seek an early career scientist with background in organic geochemistry, statistics, and Bayesian modeling to pursue analyses of paleoclimate biomarker data.

The ideal candidate should be proficient with both laboratory analysis techniques for biomarkers and statistical analysis using Python. The candidate will be expected to lead research on using biomarkers to reconstruct past climate changes, including presenting research results at national and international meetings, and drafting papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Compile biomarker SST proxy data including data produced in the
    Organic Geochemistry Lab at The University of Arizona.
  • Build statistical models to explain biomarker proxy response to
    environmental forcing, using Bayesian inference.
  • Present results at national and international meetings.
  • Draft papers summarizing results to be submitted to peer reviewed
    journals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to present examples of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrate experience in innovative research.
  • Strong communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Geosciences or related field must be
    attained by time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python, Matlab, or other programming languages.
  • Experience with biomarker temperature proxy data.
  • Experience with the lab techniques to generate biomarker proxy data.
  • Experience with Bayesian modeling.
