Position Highlights |
The College of Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences (CALES) is seeking a growth-minded and innovative Manager, Finance & Administration to oversee the financial activities for two academic the Norton School of Human Ecology (HECL) and Agricultural Education, Technology & Innovation (AETI). In addition to providing strategic partnership with each unit lead, this position will oversee financial statements, budgets, reporting and analysis that directly impact the instruction, research and extension mission based activity within the units. Attention to detail with the ability to understand the big picture is crucial for success. A positive attitude, grounded in commitment to customer service excellence is essential to this position. The successful candidate should be skilled in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and managing multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced, college-level office. Duties & Responsibilities |
Lead fiscal officer for two academic units providing leadership, enforcing policy and providing creative solutions. Managing daily operations related to budgeting and finance, personnel funding, compliance and long-term strategy implementation including:
- Monthly account reconciliation of both UA and UA Foundation accounts.
- Fiscal officer level approval of financial and student award transactions in accordance with all university, college, and sponsor guidelines.
- Manages and coordinates bi-annual inventory for 2 academic units.
- Keep up to date on relevant policies and procedures.
- Supervision of 2 business staff, planning and leading daily operations, providing direction, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Special projects and additional duties as needed.
Budget & Finance Implementation:
- Establish and revise annual budget for both academic units.
- Contributes to multi-year budgeting and planning through the Anaplan process.
- Develop and implement other budget plans and enforce policies as needed.
- Clear communication on budget & financial information to academic unit heads.
- Financial forecasts based on instruction and research metrics.
- Determine resource allocations within both academic units based on financial analysis.
- Leads and supports implementation of new financial systems, tools or policy rollouts at college and university level.
Process Improvement:
- CALES strives for continual process improvement to enhance efficiency and partner in the success of our mission. The Finance & Business Partner Manager is expected to contribute to this by understanding the work and goals of the clients and consistently look for ways to streamline processes and procedures. Expectations are also to partner with other colleges, departments, and University leadership.
- Working in alignment with School Director and Unit Head to set long-term financial and operational goals for each unit.
- Providing unit and college leadership financial expertise and advice to influence decision-making.
- Conducts financial analysis of instruction metrics including scenario planning, market trend analysis, and forecasting and help unit and college leadership understand unit performance.
Post-Award Grant/Contract Management:
- Work with ALVSCE Research Administration to route proposals.
- Liaison with faculty/PI and Sponsored Projects Administration.
- Ensure compliance with post-award activity.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Ability to effectively communicate financial information to audiences with varying levels of understanding.
- Knowledge of supervisory best practices and techniques.
- Ability to solve problems and work independently as well as in a team setting.
- Ability to work with competing and changing priorities while still meeting deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree
- Five years of related work experience, including two years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience working with UAccess Systems.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.
