Position Overview

The EHS Business Partner will support site-wide EHS initiatives, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves EHS reporting, tracking key metrics, and communicating safety standards to employees. The EHS Business Partner will work with leadership to minimize risks, protect employees, and drive proactive safety measures. Additionally, the position includes crisis management, ensuring effective responses to emergencies, and fostering a strong EHS culture through employee engagement in training, safety programs, and team participation.

This is an onsite position located in Phoenix, AZ.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (HR, Operations, Quality) to integrate EHS initiatives into daily operations and help achieve site EHS goals and objectives.
  • Foster an engaged workforce that actively participates in safety and environmental initiatives, taking ownership of EHS performance.
  • Provide actionable insights on EHS best practices, regulations, and risk management, supporting supervisors and managers in decision-making.
  • Analyze data from safety incidents, audits, inspections, and employee feedback to identify trends, root causes, and areas for improvement, supporting corrective actions and monitoring safety performance.
  • Ensure EHS performance metrics are tracked, goals are met or exceeded, and best practices are implemented.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DNR, CDC, DOH) and assist with preparation for regulatory inspections and audits. Participate in regulatory reporting, including OSHA logs and environmental compliance documentation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards, addressing hazards and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Provide timely support to managers and supervisors on health and environmental concerns.
  • Support the annual update and implementation of risk assessments, job hazard assessments, and required internal and regulatory audits.
  • Provide safety training to staff, including new hire orientation and ongoing safety programs.
  • Support sustainability initiatives focused on waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
  • Assist with testing and maintaining emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Respond in real-time to emergencies, ensuring effective communication and coordination with internal teams and external agencies.
  • Support EHS engagement through teams and committees to accomplish annual goals.
  • Oversee hazardous and infectious waste disposal program.
  • Work across disciplines with EHS team members to oversee the safety activities of all laboratories, laboratory personnel, contractors, and support staff; communicate to appropriate Management when risks are observed, corrected, or in need of further management emphasis.
  • Maintain proficiency in regulations, standards, guidelines, and trends in laboratory safety and environmental health and safety. Anticipate and evaluate their impact and communicate requirements to employees and management.
  • Assist in air quality, noise, biological, toxic, and other hazard sampling.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to work with hazardous or flammable materials so as not to endanger oneself or others.
  • Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field; or Associates degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field and 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.
  • 3+ years of EHS or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates understanding of relevant regulations: BAAQMD, OSHA, CAP, FDA, CLIA, CDC, DOH, NY regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and basic computer skills (email, internet navigation).
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a biotech manufacturing environment, medical device technology, clinical laboratory, and/or research and development environment. Advanced degree or professional.
  • Experience in an EHS role during a period of rapid business growth.
  • Professional working knowledge with creating and implementing new processes or procedures to various employee groups.
  • Professional working knowledge in seeing projects through from initiation to implementation and follow-up.
  • Professional working knowledge with ISO14001, and ISO45001, standards.
  • RCRA certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • 40hr HAZWOPER Certification.

Salary Range:

$74,000.00 - $122,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - AZ - Phoenix on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
