The University of Virginia Police Department (UPD) is seeking a Community Engagement Liaison to lead and support outreach initiatives that strengthen relationships between UVA and the broader community. This role is essential in fostering trust, collaboration, and meaningful engagement through educational initiatives and other community-focused events. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a high-performance professional environment while making a meaningful impact in the University and Charlottesville communities. - Plan, develop, and implement community relations initiatives and partnership efforts
- Coordinate a yearly calendar of programs and events, ensuring alignment with UPD's mission
- Develop public relations strategies to promote outreach efforts and strengthen community connections
- Serve as a liaison with community partners and maintain strong collaborative relationships
- Oversee community engagement efforts, assessing outcomes and sharing impact reports
- May supervise or guide staff within the department
- This role may require occasional evening and weekend hours
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree required
- Experience: 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in customer service, community engagement, or event planning is strongly preferred
- Proven skills in customer service, public interaction, and planning or coordinating activities, with strong verbal and written communication and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools to create, manage, and present documents efficiently
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Anticipated starting salary is $65,000, commensurate with education and experience.
