Job Description Summary:
The Scientist II, Pharmacology/ Biomarkers is responsible for initiating planning, performing, and analyzing the results of scientific experiments that contribute to PTC's Research and Drug Discovery and Development activities. Efforts will be focused on Translational Biology studies to identify drug targets and endpoints that can be utilized in Clinical Development. The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments, external vendors, and academic laboratories as part of PTC's project teams. A primary focus will be in identifying and developing new biomarkers for neurological disorders (Parkinson's disease, MSA), monogenetic diseases and immunological diseases. This person will have expertise in generation of cell models and the development of assays to measure endpoints in preclinical models to develop assays that can be transferred to the clinic. This will require confidence with multiple techniques including use of cell culture of primary cells and iPSCs, flow cytometry, enzyme assays, immuno-based assays including MSD, SMC and ELISA, and RT-qPCR and an understanding of translational biology. Additional expertise in obtaining and growing primary cells from rodent models of disease would be beneficial. The person will work across multiple therapeutic areas.

Proposes new technology and assays Works with early Discovery teams to help validate targets Works with programs to identify and develop biomarkers that can be transferred to the clinic - expertise in RNA, protein, and extracellular vesicle-based assays helpful Represents the Pharmacology team on multi-function team(s) Mentor and potentially supervise less experienced scientists. Translational biology expertise in drug discovery and ability to contribute to programs across multiple therapeutic areas Abides by all safety and regulatory guidelines. Maintains a detailed laboratory notebook. Abides by all safety requirements Contributes to general lab needs such as:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.
PhD in relevant discipline, Biology, Neuroscience, Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry with a minimum of 3-5 years post-doctoral or Industry experience
* Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required.
Expertise in IHC and FACs very helpful. Expertise in rodent dissection very helpful. Experience with multiple assay formats potentially including ECL, ELISA, and SMC to measure protein and RT-qPCR to measure mRNA levels. Experience and proficiency in working with data/statistical analysis software packages such as GraphPad/Prism. Experience and proficiency in working with data/statistical analysis software packages and languages such as R, RStudio, Python, Pandas helpful. Excellent verbal and written communication and skills. Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrates an understanding of the strategic alignment of his/her work with corporate goal(s) and demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects.

Expected Base Salary Range $116,900 - $147,100. The base salary offered will be contingent on assessment of candidate education level, background, and experience relative to the requirements of the position they are being considered for, as well as review of internal equity. In addition to base salary, PTC employees are also eligible for short- and long-term incentives.All eligible employees may also enroll in PTC's medical, dental, vision, and retirement savings plans.
