About This Role
The Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and Urban Food Systems faculty in the Department of Horticulture & Natural Resources is seeking post-doctoral fellow to teach two hybrid courses as part of a funded USDA HEC grant and conduct research in CEA to enhance human and environmental health. The post-doctoral fellowship emphasizes how innovative and sustainable Controlled Environment Agriculture systems can enhance human and environmental health by producing nutrient-dense, health-promoting foods. About Us
The K-State Olathe campus offers a unique environment to bridge academic research with real-world applications. As part of the position, you will:
- Join a transdisciplinary group of faculty who are committed to the development of resilient, safe, equitable food systems
- Be mentored by faculty in the K-State Department of Horticulture & Natural Resources and Urban Food Systems
- Primarily manage a new K-State Olathe Research Greenhouse designed as a state-of-the-art facility with approximately 1450 square feet providing a controlled environment for CEA education and advanced research.
- The greenhouse is divided into multiple zones, each optimized for different teaching and research applications, including climate-controlled growing areas, equipment storage, and workspace. The greenhouse is fully integrated with essential utilities, including water, power, and climate control systems, ensuring optimal growing conditions. It also incorporates overhead ventilation, shutter systems, and adjustable benching to facilitate precision agriculture studies and maximize efficiency in crop research.
- Opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, including horticulture, food microbiology, engineering, computer science, and nutrition, based on the fellow's strengths and interests.

What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in horticulture, agricultural sciences, agriculture engineering, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise or experience in controlled environment agriculture, food systems, or related technologies.
- Strong commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research in team-based environments.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and/or mentor graduate and/or undergraduate students effectively.
- A record of scholarly research and publications related to CEA, food systems, or technology integration into agriculture.
- Demonstrated experience in online course development and instruction.
