Job Description

The Senior Principal Research Scientist is self-reliant with a proven record of accomplishments, both leading others in a matrix environment, and independently identifying and solving complex problems using sophisticated scientific methods and analytical thought, across a number of critical and diverse projects. This position reports to the Distinguished Fellow in charge of the Cell and Gene Therapy Research Discovery Team.

The Senior Principal Research Scientist encourages use of diverse experimental approaches within their area of work and advances innovative processes and methodologies that generate insights that inuence research strategies in the Type1Diabetes space. The successful candidate is regarded as an emerging expert in a eld of research, specifically with expertise in the molecular and cellular biology of endocrinology. They are dependable, providing valuable advice to other research Project Teams on a regular basis. This person must have a successful track record of developing research approaches, and medical strategies that can inform potential clinical approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs and performs sophisticated and complex, technically challenging experiments that impact the achievement of department and critical T1D Program goals.
  • Provide input and contribute to the global Therapeutic Area strategic imperatives.
  • Contribute towards medical interpretation of data for the assigned product(s)
  • Generates effective hypotheses to pursue project goals, encourages the use of new experimental approaches and/or data analyses methods.
  • Makes data-driven conclusions and identies comprehensive implications for ndings.
  • Develops novel and creative solutions using their specialized depth in scientific discipline to overcome obstacles; may advise other team members on novel and creative solutions.
  • Performs advanced, complex experimental troubleshooting and methods development, and advises and mentors other team members on projects outside of their own.
  • Support development of Study Protocols, Life Cycle Management Plans, and other key study documents in conjunction with other line functions and with limited guidance.
  • Makes substantive contributions that impact the achievement of critical project activities and scientic strategies within discipline.
  • "Imports" new principles/concepts from other elds to establish new progress.
  • Support strategic alignment of program/product, working cross functionally and partnering with other key functions as outlined.
  • Provide medical input and guidance to Early Access Programs and individual IND (early access) requests and may participate and support the preparation of regulatory documents in support of regulatory submissions,
  • May generate external peer reviewed materials.
  • Provides in-depth technical advice and develops theoretical premise for issues within own
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Specialized depth of knowledge in endocrinology and methods to enable T1D novel scientific research.
  • Ability to consistently advise/mentor others to execute technically challenging, complex experiments that directly impact projects and programs within discipline.
  • Ability to consistently identify and leverage new, productive paths/approaches in experiments.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to impact and advance projects through scientic creativity and insights.
  • Assigned to the more challenging or higher-value project tasks/problems.
  • Often will have demonstrated outstanding determination and/or persistence in supporting project(s)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively write advanced technical documents, and ability to persuade others presenting technical/scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Values teamwork and collaboration to solve problems and design strategies.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, endocrinology, or related disciplines with 6 years of experience in analysis of research data and publications
  • MD (Preferred)

Pay Range:

$169,600 - $254,300

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
