The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

Job Profile Summary:

A WGU Digital Services Librarian is responsible for managing all aspects of the online library and ensuring contemporary library standards are met. The individual works with vendors to procure and implement resources and services that meet student and program needs; provide reference and research support to students, faculty, and staff; and create instructional materials to support and promote library resources and information literacy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and maintains the online WGU library, including search systems and content, using products and platforms that meet the university's needs efficiently within proposed library budget
  • Ensures regional and national accreditation standards are met
  • Creates and implements library collection development policies
  • Work across university departments to determine the information needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Integrates WGU library resources directly into WGU coursework.
  • Supports and trains students, faculty, and staff in the research process
  • Ensures the library meets current standards of library science
  • Creates library-specific instruction for use in WGU courses and on the library site
  • Maintains copyright on library e-reserves and provides copyright assistance to other university departments
  • Maintains reports on the usage of library collections and services

Job Qualifications:

Department Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited university
  • Knowledge of library platform and content systems and vendors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students is preferred.
  • Terminal degree and all applicable licenses or certifications.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of professional experience in college or university libraries, with experience in online education, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience is acceptable

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Position & Application Details
