As our garden shines with enchanting Winter Lights, we need warm-hearted individuals to help serve up the perfect cup of cocoa to our guests. You'll be at the heart of the event, creating cozy, delicious drinks that add to the magic of the evening. If you love spreading warmth and joy during the holiday season, we'd love to have you join our team!

Cocoa Shack Associates work in the Cocoa Shack or Cocoa Cabin selling drinks and snacks to Winter Lights attendees. This position will involve cash management. Duties will include providing excellent customer service, taking orders and processing cash and credit card sales on point of sale system, pouring alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, operating simple machinery like cocoa dispensers and Kegerators, and other event-operations tasks as assigned.

The Cocoa Shack is heated, but staff must be prepared to work in all weather. Pay is $16.00 per hour for this super FUN job! This role will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end by 11:00 p.m. Up to 40 hours a week are available through January 4th. A mandatory, paid in-person training will occur prior to the show start and holiday availability is required.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
Winter Lights is the primary fundraiser for The North Carolina Arboretum. Featuring over a million lights, guests will walk through the gardens to experience the show. Winter Lights runs every evening from November 15 through December 31.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a high school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred.

Competencies
- Customer Service: This position will require strong customer service skills including a solid knowledge of event procedures, attentiveness to customer feedback and the ability to use positive language.
- Communication: Must have excellent and courteous written and verbal communication skills for interaction with both internal and external publics. Ability to screen and direct clients and visitors to the appropriate source, inform the public about services, processes, procedures and guidelines. This position will need to follow both written and oral instructions.
- Adheres to cash policies and procedures to minimize losses
