This position is split between Pathology Clinical Care (20%) and Experimental Tissue Resource (ETR) (80%). ETR is a shared resource of the Chao Comprehensive Cancer Center and Pathology Department. It serves clinical trials histology requests, as well as human and animal tissue histology for basic research


Your Role on the Team

The Histotechnologist prepares and processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist/Researcher. The incumbent will collect, accept, and recognize specimens as they arrive in the lab; assist in the selection of appropriate fixatives; embed and cut sections; and stain and mount surgical, neurological, bone marrow, and autopsy tissue sections on slides so that the presence or absence of disease may be effectively demonstrated to the Pathologist. The position requires to performs duties in the OCT frozen section area and Experimental Tissue Resource as needed. The incumbent maintains laboratory inventory and equipment, keeps Quality Control records of work performed, and tracks/records the work performed.

Preferred:

  • Ability to learn to use electronic medical records and inventory systems
  • ASCP certified histotechnician
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience A minimum of one year experience and the ability to embed and perform special stains
