The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Summary:

The medical assist performs both clerical and clinical tasks to assist the department in providing patient care.

Clerical tasks may include but is not limited to answering phones, scheduling appointments, patient check-in and out, collects copayments/coinsurance, verifying insurance eligibility, coverage and benefits, obtaining prior authorizations and other clerical tasks as assigned.

Clinical tasks may include but is not limited to rooming patients, verifying patient information, confirming purpose of visit, obtaining and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing the infusion suite for patient care, communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing advance practice provider or health practitioner and other clinical tasks as assigned.

Completes assigned tasks with minimum supervision while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school diploma or GED required

BLS certification through American Heart Association required

Preferred:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistance Program highly preferred
  • 6 months - 1 year of medical assistance experience preferred
  • Experience with EPIC preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
  • Bilingual speaking highly preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the department with clerical tasks
  • Answers telephones
  • Schedule appointments efficiently and accurately
  • Greets patients and family members
  • Responsible for patient check-in and out process,
  • Call no shows, cancelations, etc, and reschedule appointments
  • Verifies insurance eligibility, coverage and benefits
  • Obtains prior authorizations
  • Collects copayments and coinsurance according to department and hospital guidelines
  • Performs clinical tasks to support the department
  • Gathers and scans important medical information for appointments which may include but not limited to: lab results, referring MD notes, referrals
  • Room patient, verify patient information, confirm purpose of visit, obtain and record vital signs e,g,
  • Blood pressure, temperature, oxygen and pulse, medical histories, prepare the infusion suite for patient care, communicate with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing advance practice provider or health practitioner and other clinical tasks as assigned
  • Completes assigned tasks with minimum supervision while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
