Job Overview:

The Central Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment. This role ensures that all surgical and procedural areas are supplied with safe, sterile, and functional instrumentation in accordance with hospital policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • Graduate from an approved Central Supply Program
  • 2 years of Previous sterile processing or central service experience in a hospital setting or Surgery Center

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Current sterile processing certification (CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent)

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Night shift
  • Full Time
  • Holiday rotation required

Essential Functions:

  • Handle and use chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines and PPE requirements
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, sharpness, and integrity prior to assembly
  • Select appropriate packaging materials containers, wraps, or pouches for instruments and trays
  • Operate washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers, as well as perform manual cleaning when required
  • Assemble and distribute surgical case carts accurately and in a timely manner to support the OR schedule
  • Maintain adequate inventory to support the assembly and availability of surgical instruments and equipment
  • Sterilize instruments and trays in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures, and manufacturer instructions
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, hospital policies, and regulatory standards e.g. AAMI, Joint Commission
  • Assist in expediting surgical procedures by collaborating with the OR team to provide necessary instrumentation and equipment
  • Perform decontamination and cleaning of all instruments and equipment received, following established standards and procedures
  • Conduct and document required testing on all sterilizers and washers to ensure parameters are met and equipment is functioning properly
  • Other duties as assigned
