What to Expect
Tesla's Cell Manufacturing Engineering Team is looking for a highly motivated Process Engineering Technician to accelerate our next-generation battery cell manufacturing program. This role will support the process development of specialized battery electrode calendaring, lamination, and slitting equipment. In this position, the Process Engineering Technician will work closely with manufacturing engineers to realize high quality, efficient and reliable equipment and processes. This includes process improvement projects, problem-solving to achieve high yield, reduced downtime, and production ramp-up. This is a hands-on position working with equipment and data.

What You'll Do
  • Support development and refinement of manufacturing processes and equipment specifications
  • Interact daily with manufacturing engineers to communicate results and receive tasks
  • Collaborate with OEMs on equipment development projects while participating in problem-solving for calendaring, lamination, and slitting processes and implement changes in production
  • Perform equipment checks per SAT protocols and provide input for machine development
  • Conduct yield analysis, develop defect paretos, and implement process improvements
  • Analyze defect trends and control charts to identify and prevent process excursions
  • Assist with manufacturing instruction development while validating processes and equipment to ensure required performance

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of experience in a technician role, preferred experience with calendaring, lamination, slitting processes, hydraulic systems, positioners, and roll-to-roll converting systems with manual fabrication and commissioning of equipment
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated familiarity with mechatronic or electro-mechanical systems
  • Ability to converse technically with engineers and learn new systems quickly
  • Ability to solve simple problems autonomously with minimal supervision and escalate complex issues when needed, while work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Must have command of English language, both written and verbal while demonstrating proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including ability to plot and visualize data

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
  • Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
