Communicable Disease Investigator

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking a full-time (40-hour week) Communicable Disease Investigator. The selected candidate will assist in controlling the spread of communicable diseases through the identification, tracking and notification of potential exposures and by reporting to the appropriate agencies.

Responsibilities include:


  • Conducting epidemiological investigations in coordination with other public health programs on confirmed and suspected cases of communicable diseases.
  • Makes referrals for testing by medical providers in accordance with proper follow-up guidelines.
  • Collects information concerning the incidence and sources of communicable diseases
  • Coordinates and participates in the process of disease reporting by gathering information from laboratories, clinics, hospitals (infectious control practitioners) and physicians.
  • Ensures completion of prescribed therapy as needed to protect both individual and public health from communicable disease.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, community health, nursing, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in community health, nursing, or a related area.
  • The candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of the theory and practice of communicable disease control.
  • Spanish and French bilingual candidates are highly desirable

The expected annual starting salary is $52,556. Full annual salary for a Class 6 Communicable Disease Investigator is $52,556 - $70,950 for a 40-hour week.
