What to Expect

We are seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with Vision System experience to join our Energy Products Manufacturing Engineering team. In this role, you will lead the development and launch of machine vision systems that enable advanced assembly and test processes for new lines at Megafactory 3 and other Tesla sites, driving high-quality, efficient production of power electronics for our energy and charging products.You will own the process from concept through prototyping, ramp, and transfer to production.

This role requires onsite presence at our newest Megafactory 3 in the Greater Houston, TX area to support pilot and launch efforts for the first 18-24 months. Afterwards, this role will transition to our Gigafactory in Austin, TX. Commuter or relocation support will be provided.


What You'll Do
  • Design, implement, validate machine vision systems for new Energy/Charging manufacturing lines
  • Develop system processes and equipment to high-volume through qualification, documentation, and training
  • Drive design for manufacturability working closely with Manufacturing, Process, Design, Quality, and other cross functional stakeholders
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for automated vision applications and best practices
  • Provide direction and mentorship to machine / automation suppliers and Tesla internal machine building teams

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of Machine Vision Systems experience in automation equipment; Keyence preferred
  • Expert in developing, deploying, ramping, and optimizing vision systems for complex assembly processes in automated high-volume manufacturing environments
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to apply knowledge towards manufacturing process development
  • Experience with lean and six sigma principles, including proficiency in tools such as DMAIC, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Design of Experiments (DOE),Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Process Capability Analysis (PCA), statistical process control (SPC), and Kaizen
  • Proficiency in data querying, analysis, and visualization using tools like MySQL, Python, R, JMP, or Tableau to make data-driven decisions and drive business results
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
