Position Summary The Perinatal Safety Nurse plays a vital role in advancing maternal and neonatal safety by serving as a dedicated resource for clinical staff, patients, and leadership, This role focuses on real-time monitoring of labor and delivery care, identification of safety concerns, coordination of rapid response interventions, and implementation of best practices to reduce preventable harm, PSN promotes a culture of safety, supports adherence to evidence-based protocols, and fosters collaboration across interdisciplinary teams to improve outcomes for mothers and infants, Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Oversight & Monitoring
- Provide continuous oversight of perinatal care processes, including labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care,
- Monitor adherence to standardized safety bundles
- Quality & Safety Initiatives
- Participate in review of near misses, adverse events, and root cause analyses,
- Support implementation of national and state perinatal safety initiatives
- Track and report safety indicators, trends, and performance improvement outcomes,
- Education & Coaching
- Provide real-time coaching to staff on fetal monitoring interpretation, obstetric emergencies, and safe team communication,
- Conduct debriefs after clinical events to reinforce learning and improvement,
- Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a liaison between nursing, medical staff, and service line leadership regarding perinatal safety,
- Promote interdisciplinary teamwork through use of standardized communication tools
- Partner with risk management, quality, and patient safety teams to ensure alignment of strategies,
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current state licensure,
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required;
- .Master s degree preferred,
- Minimum: 5 years of recent clinical experience in labor and delivery
- Certification in Inpatient Obstetrics
- Strong knowledge of perinatal patient safety initiatives, evidence-based practice, and national guidelines,
- Demonstrated ability to lead in crisis situations and to coach peers effectively,
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills,
