Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications forPlumber.

Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Occasional overtime or irregular hours required to meet business needs.

Travel within University and occasional travel to offsite University locations using a University vehicle is required.

Occasional regional travel required.

Duties/Responsibilities



  • Perform plumbing tasks related to maintenance, repairs, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, and systems. Plumbing duties include but are not limited to:
    * Assemble and install valves and fittings.
    * Install, repair, and maintain sinks, tubs, and toilets.
    * Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, appliances, and trim.
    * Install, repair, and maintain water heaters and water conditioners.
    * Install, repair, and maintain underground storm, sanitary, and other water piping systems.
    * Install, repair, and maintain water treatment equipment, piping, and controls.
    * Test piping systems and fixtures for leaks.
    * Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance meet the requirements for the appropriate codes.
    * Assist with water fountains and swimming pool maintenance (will require additional off campus education and certification).

  • Tend to the preventive and general needs for maintenance of the University's structures, equipment, furnishings, and systems and for various assignments for repair and rehabilitation projects.

  • Work from blueprints, drawings, work orders, or oral instructions to construct and repair University assets.

  • Plan and execute basic building maintenance and renovation projects, determine tasks, making layouts, and estimating materials and labor costs.

  • Assemble furniture, seats, and other equipment.

  • Set up furniture and equipment for special and academic events.

  • Perform carpentry tasks related to maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, furniture, and systems.

  • Perform electrical tasks related to maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction projects for buildings, equipment, and systems.

  • Repair and/or install windows, doors, partitions, coiling components, floor tiles, cove base, stair treads, wall coverings, and roofs.

  • Perform hand and bench work in the various maintenance shops. Operate various hand tools, carpentry equipment and tools, electrical tools, meters, plumbing tools and equipment, and other equipment as required.

  • Perform painting, refinishing, and associated work to buildings, furniture, and fixtures.

  • Assist in maintaining building supplies, tools, equipment, and spare parts.

  • Perform snow removal and paving work as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge and Skills

High school diploma/GED required.

Vocational training and/or experience in trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and/or heating and air conditioning, knowledge of its practices, procedures, materials and tools, skills in a variety of trades, and an ability to plan and layout job assignments required.

Valid driver license required.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Recommended qualifications include four years' experience in journey level of a trade named.
