About the Role

Bonterra is the AI for social good software company. Our Data Science and Analytics team embeds directly within Product teams to build out AI features, owning product analytics, modeling, and production deployment. Our Senior AI/ML Engineers set the standard for how Data Science models are deployed, scaled, and maintained in production. This role combines technical depth with leadership, you'll design and optimize the infrastructure that powers AI/ML, mentor others on best practices, and ensure that our data science work is production-ready, secure, and reliable. You will be a key partner to Product and Engineering in bringing innovative models into production at scale. The impact of our work empowers the doers of good: non-profit, public-sector, and grantmaking organizations whose goals are to help those who need it most.

This role requires both the scientific mindset of engaging deeply with problems and experimentation and the engineering mindset of building solutions that are reliable, repeatable, and production-ready. The ideal candidate will have reverence for truth, humility, willingness to learn, and a passion for social good.

Essential Functions

  • Own the full lifecycle of predictive and generative models: problem understanding, solution design, feature creation, proof-of-concept modeling, validation, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Work in SQL, dbt, and Snowflake to design, test, and deliver production-ready data pipelines and model outputs.

  • Build models using Python and deploy them in cloud environments, including AWS using Bedrock, SageMaker, and Lambda functions.

  • Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering partners on cross-functional, remote, distributed teams in an Agile environment.

  • Continually evaluate and improve model performance in production.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to translate between experimentation and production, balancing speed and rigor.

  • Hands-on experience deploying ML models to production environments (AWS, containerized services, APIs).

  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and testing frameworks.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years in Data Science on a Product team or related role (experience in an Agile environment preferred).

  • Experience with AWS Bedrock, Sagemaker or other LLM providers.

  • Proven experience with SQL and Python; experience with dbt and Snowflake.

  • Experience with data governance and monitoring practices.

  • Experience working on remote and/or distributed teams.

  • Familiarity with AI ethics.
