About the Job

The Training Specialist is responsible for designing, coordinating, and managing high-impact training initiatives. This position serves as a bridge between departments, units, and teams to enhance collaboration and learning experiences where the specialist will oversee process improvement initiatives, host cross-departmental webinars, apply instructional design theories and methods, manage courses and learning data in the Learning Management System, and assist in curating e-learning modules. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, experience with project coordination in a complex work structure, prior adult education experience, and an interest in continuous learning.

The hourly range for this position is $32.70 - $36.06; annualized $68,016 - $75,004. This position offers a hybrid schedule; any in-person work will be on the UMN Twin Cities campus. This position is not H1-B eligible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination and Training Knowledge Management (60%)
    • Coordinate and manage training sessions and related programming.
    • Serve as the primary intake point for new training projects and requests
    • Lead the "Training Champions" initiative to ensure documentation and resources remain current and accessible
    • Facilitate cross-departmental communication to identify training needs and opportunities
    • Cultivate relationships systemwide to proactively develop tailored training solutions for teams and individuals
    • Coordinates and plans training-related projects, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication are effectively managed
    • Develop and update Tableau dashboards with relevant training and HR data
  • Create technical training (30%)
    • Provide support to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate technical training and job aids that respond to learner needs and meet institutional goals
    • Support the development of content outlines and storyboard courses based on direction and collaboration with SMEs regarding training needs
    • Apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods
    • Develop exercises and activities that enhance the learning experience
    • Create supporting learning collateral through modality and media (audio scripts, video editing, graphics editing, survey questions, simulations, role-play, games, etc.)
    • Assists in creating synchronous and asynchronous courses in the Learning Management System
  • Other duties as assigned (10%)
    • Document and organize team processes, folders
    • Manage team inbox and respond to inquiries
    • Maintain knowledge of training industry best practices and make recommendations on how to apply them to the HRMS training strategy
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus 2 years of experience; or a combination of education and/or experience equal to at least 6 years
  • At least one year working within a Learning Management System
  • One year of experience designing instructor-led or computer-based learning
  • Technical writing and editing expertise

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with course development software (for example, Captivate, Articulate)
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to quickly master new technologies
  • Working knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Strong project coordination and outreach skills. Experience using Asana, Canvas, Tableau, TeamDynamix, PeopleSoft Human Resources, and/or similar team and enterprise software systems

Pay Range: $32.70 - $36.06 hourly; annualized $68,016 - $75,004; depending on education/qualifications/experience
