A Brief Overview
Responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining clinical nutrition programs in the Inpatient & Outpatient setting. Provides oversight for quality assurance of clinical programs to improve quality care, improve customer satisfaction and promote education & research. Ensures competency based assessments for initial & ongoing clinical practice of dieticians. Directs residency & fellowship programs. Provides leadership for various clinical education programs for students, residents, dieticians & other healthcare professionals. Develops & revises policies & procedures to optimize clinical practice including but not limited to: decreasing variability in practice, supporting evidence based practice, develop systems to ensure & improve patient care, support the participation in professional development of staff & scholarly activities that contribute to the advancement of the clinical nutrition discipline.

What you will do

  • Clinical Management
  • Works with Supervisors & Education Coordinator to provide oversight of the training & teaching of all new clinical staff.
  • Works with Operations Managers and Supervisors to ensure comprehensive clinical development of all staff to facilitate cross coverage between clinical areas when needed.
  • Regularly collaborates with Operations Manager(s) and Safety & Quality Specialist to identify, create & maintain patient care guidelines using evidence-based practice, benchmarking & quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops & supervises the Safety & Quality Specialist, Education Coordinator, & Specialists ensuring line of site clinical oversight.
  • Ensures the development of standards or professional care & conduct are consistent with hospital & regulatory standards.
  • Works with the leadership team to coordinate & modify staffing based on sick calls, workload & available staff.
  • Works with Safety & Quality Specialist to continuously analyze data & evaluate the quality of service, developing plans when necessary to correct identified efficiencies or unfavorable trends
  • Promotes family centered, interdisciplinary, competency based care.
  • Develops, maintains & oversees digital presence & content through working with CHOP web development team on department website.
  • Maintains/oversees sharepoint content
  • Responsible for engagement with enterprise Digital Technology team & Clinical Nutrition Leadership team to coordinate IS project submissions & oversee maintenance of EHR
  • Understands organizational systems & enterprise stakeholders & builds relationships to support business development & nutrition services expansion.
  • Ensures compliance with accrediting agencies and regulatory bodies.
  • Education Program Oversight
  • Ensures that the department based educational programs enhance the clinical & professional development of staff.
  • Develops and maintains didactic modules for ongoing staff development programs & competencies.
  • Ensures ongoing analysis of departmental needs to assist in developing staff education programs.
  • Ensures appropriate methods are used to assess the effectiveness, quality & content of educational programs.
  • Provides oversight of clinical nutrition department professional pathway.
  • Provides oversight of all student, Residency & Fellowship programs, leading program growth as appropriate.
  • Research & Academics
  • Works with Operations Managers to develop, support or participate in clinically based research projects.
  • Collaborates regularly with Operations Managers to develop and promote programmatic growth.
  • Oversees the development of clinical practice guidelines, job aides, & any other materials that support best practices of Dieticians.
  • Creates an environment that fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect & diversity.
  • Quality & Patient Safety
  • Monitors clinical quality measures on a regular basis; supports the Safety & Quality Specialist in the development and prioritization of quality improvement initiatives to improve patient care and clinical nutrition services.
  • Incorporates patient safety into all aspects of family-centered patient care & coordination; promotes & adheres to the principles of fair & just culture.
  • Ensures compliance with all department & enterprise policies, procedures, regulations, and accrediting agency requirements
  • Leadership & Professional Development
  • Represents CHOP Clinical Nutrition program through leadership-level participation in hospital committees or initiatives, local or national professional organizations or initiatives, continuing education events and training programs
  • Expected to engage in professional activities to maintain competency and continually advance knowledge in order to provide effective clinical leadership.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Dietetics, foods and nutrition, business administration, public health or related area. Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Dietetics, foods and nutrition, business administration, public health or related area. Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least six (6) years Clinical or related experience - Required
  • Prior management experience - Preferred
  • Prior pediatric experience - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy in pediatric patients. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to patients and families, public, staff and physicians. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to organize tasks and work independently. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others. (Required proficiency)
  • Proficient with nutrient analysis software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience. (Required proficiency)
  • Proven ability to meet budget goals. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence; consistently upholds CHOP leadership competencies, ICARE Values and service standards. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical equations related to medical nutrition therapy. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) - upon hire - Required or
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) - upon hire - Required and
  • Licensed Dietitian-Nutrition (LDN) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 6 months - Required

SALARY RANGE:

$104,600.00 - $138,600.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
