The Lead Surgical Support Tech is responsible for selecting instruments, equipment and supplies for an operative or invasive procedure. Position responsibilities will include the organization and coordination of the GMC-OR sterile supply areas. The position requires timely communication to the OR teams, coordination of the support technicians (for all shifts), knowledge of procedure type, physician preferences, facility protocols and principles/guidelines for the establishment and maintenance of sterility. Possesses high attention to detail, organization skills and a clear ability to communicate in a high stress environment. Assists with patient care, with the ability to create and maintain an aseptic surgical environment under the direction of the circulating nurse.

REQUIRED

- High school graduate or equivalent education.

- Graduate of a Surgical Scrub Technologist program or graduate of related associates degree program

- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supply required.

- Ability to work well with others.

- Strong leadership and organization skills.

- Five (5) years increasingly responsible clerical experience with at least one year working in a surgical support setting

- High attention to detail.

- Demonstrates effective communication and critical thinking skills.

- CPR Certification required.

- Demonstrates professional development through participation in continuing education.

Note: As of February 7, 2016, employees currently in the Surgical Technologist role are considered grandfathered and are therefore not required to meet the educational requirements of this job.
