Lead Operating Engineer - JLL

What this job involves:

Join JLL as a Lead Operating Engineer and play a critical role in overseeing facility operations and engineering excellence. In this position, you'll supervise engineering department staff while ensuring the optimal performance of building systems, safety protocols, and maintenance operations. You'll be instrumental in maintaining world-class facilities that support our clients' business objectives while fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence. This role offers the opportunity to lead technical teams, manage complex building systems, and directly contribute to JLL's reputation as a leader in commercial real estate services.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Provide joint supervision of engineering department staff and manage delegation of preventative maintenance programs, equipment installation, repair and maintenance
  • Oversee and maintain the physical plant including utility services, HVAC, plumbing and electronic equipment to ensure optimal safety and health standards
  • Schedule and coordinate emergency repair activities based on priority and available personnel capabilities
  • Perform comprehensive equipment inspections and ensure proper maintenance adherence to AES standards
  • Lead safety training initiatives and ensure compliance with safety indoctrination and continuing safety training requirements
  • Manage site operations and various permits including facility work permits, hot work permits, and roof access permits
  • Coordinate facility projects as requested by customers and recommend equipment purchases for long-range replacement planning

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience with building life safety systems including control panels, smoke/duct detectors, sprinkler systems, pull stations, strobe lights, horns, and fire doors
  • Proven experience in mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of building CMMS systems
  • Ability to provide technical advice and instruction to subordinates in building engineering systems
  • Experience implementing quality assurance programs for engineering department work
  • Knowledge of safety and fire prevention regulations and ability to enforce compliance
  • Experience managing contractors and ensuring client requirement adherence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Corrigoexperience
  • Previous supervisory experience in facility engineering or building operations
  • Experience with long-range equipment replacement planning and capital project coordination
  • Background in establishing and maintaining safety-sensitive culture in team environments
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate facility management best practices
  • Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders including clients, contractors, and internal teams
