We're seeking an experienced
Welder
to collaborate with the steel shop team and support production needs. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, assembling and fabricating metal components, and using high-heat welding machinery to shape and join materials.
What You'll Do:
- Form, bend, and tack weld armatures and custom fabrications; work with materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Operate tools such as a drill press, band saw, punch press, benders, grinders, and portable and hand tools.
- Use precision measuring equipment to ensure precision and quality results; inspect work to meet expectations.
- Read and interpret documents such as blueprints.
- Move materials using hoists, cranes, and rigging.
- Drive a forklift (certification provided), lift, move, and load products and materials including for shipment.
- Perform general labor duties.
What You Bring:
Knowledge, Education
- High school education or equivalent
- Broad knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, and maintenance procedures and practices
- Basic understanding of wire, stick, or TIG welding
Experience
- Excellent work history
- At least one year of related experience; a combination of education and experience will be considered
Skills, Abilities
- Proficient in operating hand and power tools
- Ability to read and interpret documents including layouts, blueprints, sketches, schedules, and maintenance instructions
- Effective communication ability, including verbal, listening, and written
- Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, and circumference; can apply basic algebra and geometry
- Solid teamwork abilities, and the ability to work independently
- Ability to work safely; preferred: OSHA safety experience/training/awareness
- Reading comprehension, common sense, critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills
- Ability to operate various equipment including welding tools, forklift, hoists, and rigging
Physical
- Strength and stamina, including regularly using hands to handle, or feel; regularly walk, stand, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must have close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must lift 70 lbs. from floor to waist, 90 lbs. from waist to chest, and 25 lbs. chest to above head. Must carry 50 lbs. for 50 ft., push a 100 lb. wheeled cart for 100 ft., and drag 50 lbs. for 100 ft.
Work Environment/Schedule
- Standard production shop environment includes exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, and typical machinery noise (moderate to loud)
- Overtime may be required, depending on the project deadline
