Purpose Statement / Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a registered nurse prepared at the master's or doctorate level as a Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse Practitioner in the Urgent Care will manage primary and secondary care conditions, and evaluate tertiary care conditions guided by a Standardized Procedure. Primary care conditions are defined as common acute, chronic stable, or health care maintenance conditions; secondary care conditions are unfamiliar, uncommon, unstable, or complex conditions; and tertiary care conditions are acute, life-threatening conditions such as respiratory and cardiac arrest while using the five (5) Simply Better Steps.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
  1. Must have the ability, skill-set, qualifications, education, and licensure that are required for all the responsibilities this position must cover.
  2. Must excel in communication (written & verbal), customer service and can work independently or as part of a team.

  5. Arrive at work station at designated start time, ready to begin work and support patient care.
  6. Be a role model for all company policies, procedures and directives.

  8. Effectively identify, evaluate and address acute health care needs-disease prevention and health promotion issues of the patient population.
  9. Provide quality patient care guided by best practice and standardized procedures.
  10. Work in collaboration with Urgent Care Provider(s) and Medical Director(s).

Essential Job Outcomes
  1. Meet ambulatory nursing clinical competencies for Nurse Practitioner licensure.
  2. Maintain understanding of and work within the Scope of Practice based on role/licensure/education.
  3. Identify improvement opportunities, implement countermeasures, and escalate to appropriate management resource as needed.
  4. Collaborate with all departments to coordinate patient care.
  5. Ensure documentation is accurate, complete and timely; reflecting patient's plan of care.
  6. Demonstrate continued development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends and education.
  7. Participate in processes that improve Standards of Care and practice in the delivery of high quality patient care.
  8. Can work independently and interdependently with members of the healthcare team.
  9. Maintains patient care within the work flow parameters of the Urgent Care and Visit Time expectations.
  10. Provides individualized education to patient(s) and/or family regarding preventive care, acute and/or chronic medical condition, medical treatment and prescribed medications.
  11. Provide consultations to patients when necessary. Effectively can identify patients who require a higher level of care and transfer appropriately.
  12. Complete history and physical exam for the patients seen in the urgent care.
  13. Order, interpret and document diagnostic tests results and formulate plan based on assessment and results.
  14. Perform any additional or miscellaneous duties as requested by the management team within the scope of knowledge and ability.
