Instructor, Air Conditioning Tech - South Campus

Responsibilities: Teaching HVACR related coursework.
Teaching:
  • Keeps up with developments in the field of study.
  • Demonstrates high standards-academic and professional.
  • Evaluates student work constructively and provides timely feedback.
  • Teaches at times and locations that meet student needs.
  • Provides access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials.
  • Develops and uses a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guideline.
Professional Development:
  • Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
  • Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with varied educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning.
  • Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process of self- reflection.
  • Meets or exceeds professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline.
Service:
  • Actively participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils.
  • Participates in college-related activities such as registration, community education, recruitment of students, student retention, and faculty selection.
  • Participates in college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention.
  • Participates in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college.
  • Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participates in setting departmental goals, in developing college budgets that support the goals, and in planning for achieving those goals.
  • Promotes and maintains departmental partnerships with industry partners and other institutions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of HVACR system design, troubleshooting, controls, and refrigeration cycle theory.
  • Ability to teach both hands-on lab and online/hybrid courses, incorporating simulation software and digital learning tools (e.g., LabVolt, iConnect, or HVAC Simulator).
  • Knowledge of current codes, safety standards, and energy efficiency regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, IECC).
  • Ability to develop curriculum aligned with industry certifications (NATE, EPA 608, HVAC Excellence).
  • Strong communication, mentoring, and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain lab safety and preventive maintenance schedules for instructional equipment.
  • Knowledge of workforce education principles, student learning outcomes assessment, and competency-based instruction.
  • Familiarity with smart building systems, building automation controls (BACnet, DDC), and energy management systems.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or higher in teaching field or related field required.
  • Three (3) years' work experience in the Gulf Coast Region field of residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • 608 EPA License
Preferred:
  • Five (5) years' work experience in the Gulf Coast Region field of residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration.
  • TDLR Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Contractors (ACR) License
  • Teaching, training, or supervisory experience, especially in apprenticeship or workforce programs.
  • NATE, ICE, or HVAC Excellence Certification (Institute of Credentialing Excellence, North American Technician Excellence, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning)
  • OSHA 10/30-hour safety certification (for lab-based instruction).
  • Experience with HVAC system commissioning, retrofitting, or energy audits.
  • Industry partnerships experience (advisory committees, internships, or dual-credit programs).
