The Senior Human Resources Manager role is pivotal in shaping the workforce and culture of Avient businesses. At Avient, this position collaborates closely with the business leadership teams and HR Director to craft and execute comprehensive HR strategies that align with the company's goals. This role is not just about managing resources; it's about empowering people and propelling the organization towards excellence.

The incumbent's expertise in project and performance management drives the continuous improvement and innovation within the HR department, ultimately contributing to the success of Avient's Advanced Composites business in our global Specialty Engineered Materials segment.

Based out of our Avon Lake, Ohio global headquarters or Birmingham, Alabama manufacturing facility, the focus is on attracting and nurturing top talent, fostering a productive work environment, and ensuring compliance with cost-effective measures across the business and manufacturing locations under their remit. This includes Englewood, Colorado, Montrose, Colorado, Winona, Minnesota, and Birmingham, Alabama with direct leadership for three HR partners in supporting these locations.


  • Oversee the implementation of HR policies and procedures across the plants and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.

  • Develop strategic HR plans that align with the overall business objectives for the Advanced Composites business in areas such as talent development, workforce planning and org design.

  • Support the talent acquisition needs, providing guidance on recruitment strategies to ensure the attraction and retention of top talent.

  • Manage employee relations, acting as a mediator to resolve conflicts and foster a positive work environment.

  • Conduct performance management processes, including setting objectives, performance reviews, and employee development programs.

  • Drive organizational development initiatives that support the business's growth and adaptability in a dynamic market.

  • Collaborate with department heads to assess workforce needs and develop succession planning strategies.

  • Provide strategic advice to the leadership on HR issues and support them in decision-making processes.

  • Monitor HR metrics, such as turnover rates and employee engagement, to inform continuous improvement efforts.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and labor legislation changes that could impact the organization.

  • Support a safe work environment by upholding all safety standards and supports leadership in reinforcing these standards.

  • Perform other projects as required by the business, functional unit, and/or HR organization

  • Exhibit a strong understanding of business operations and financial impacts, ensuring HR priorities align with organizational goals.

  • Serves as a dynamic force for organizational evolution, inspiring and guiding others through complex decision-making processes.

  • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills, engaging effectively with senior executives to drive forward company initiatives.

  • Adapts to the diverse needs of the business, undertaking special projects to support the broader objectives of the organization and its HR department.

  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business, or a related field required.

  • Master's degree in business, Human Resources, Industrial/Labor Relations, Organizational Psychology, or Communications is preferred

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the HR field, with a preference for those who have management experience.

  • Proven track record of leading and developing HR teams.

  • Strong understanding of labor laws and employment regulations.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills.

  • Experience in performance management, employee relations, and compensation and benefits.

  • Ability to manage a diverse workforce and foster a positive work environment.

  • Certification in HR (such as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) is an asset.

Scope

This position supports US Business Units, including direct partnership with the General Manager and their staff, including several functions as Marketing, Manufacturing (with several manufacturing sites), Sales, R&D, among others. This position will be based in either Avon Lake, Ohio or Birmingham, Alabama and will require approximately 40% travel between the various US locations for the BUs, among other travel for meetings.
