Sr. Manager, Workday Tech DevOps

The Senior Manager, Workday Tech Ops, is a key leadership role within the Global HR Technology organization, responsible for overseeing all technical operations and development initiatives for Workday Extend, Prism Analytics, and system integrations across the company's Workday HCM platform.

This individual will lead a global team of developers and analysts to design, build, and support innovative Workday solutions that extend core functionality, enhance data insights, and streamline integrations across the enterprise. Acting as both a strategic leader and technical authority, this role ensures that Workday HCM remains a scalable, secure, and data-rich platform, enabling business transformation and global workforce optimization.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the global Workday Technical Operations (Tech Ops) team, including Workday Extend developers, Prism analysts, and integration specialists.
  • Define and execute the Workday technical strategy aligned with enterprise architecture, HR, and business priorities.
  • Partner with HR, IT, and business leaders to identify and deliver scalable, high-impact technical solutions within Workday.
  • Manage global development resources, budgets, vendor partnerships, and project timelines.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical and operational Workday issues.

Workday Extend Development

  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of Workday Extend applications that enhance or expand native Workday functionality.
  • Ensure Extend solutions follow architectural best practices, security protocols, and maintainability standards.
  • Collaborate with product owners and UX designers to deliver user-centric applications for HR, Finance, and global workforce management.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of Extend applications - from concept through deployment, versioning, and support.

Workday Prism Analytics

  • Lead the Workday Prism Analytics strategy and development to provide actionable insights and self-service analytics capabilities.
  • Partner with People Analytics, Finance, and Business Intelligence teams to design robust data pipelines and analytics models.
  • Ensure data integrity, governance, and compliance across all Prism datasets and reporting environments.
  • Promote analytics innovation through advanced data modeling, visualization, and integration with enterprise data platforms.

Integration Development & Technical Architecture

  • Manage the architecture, design, and development of Workday integrations using Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIB, REST APIs, and other middleware tools.
  • Ensure seamless data flow between Workday and external systems (Payroll, CRM, ERP, ATS, Identity Management, and other global business platforms).
  • Implement best practices for integration monitoring, security, and error resolution.
  • Partner with enterprise IT to ensure Workday integrations align with global data and security standards.

Governance, Compliance & Operational Excellence

  • Establish and maintain Workday development standards, technical documentation, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with global data privacy, SOX, and security policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process automation, DevOps methodologies, and operational metrics.
  • Manage Workday release readiness and oversee testing for new features, integrations, and Extend/Prism updates.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (master's preferred).
  • 8-12 years of progressive experience in Workday HCM technical operations, including 3+ years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
  • Hands-on expertise with Workday Extend, Workday Prism Analytics, and Workday integration development.
  • Proven track record leading global, cross-functional Workday development teams.
  • Experience in large, multi-country enterprise environments.

Technical Skills

  • Deep technical knowledge of Workday architecture, APIs, security model, and data structures.
  • Proficiency with Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors, and REST/SOAP web services.
  • Experience with JSON, XML, XSLT, Java, or other integration-related programming languages and integration patterns.
  • Advanced understanding of analytics, data engineering, and visualization tools within Workday Prism.
  • Familiarity with Workday Extend app design principles, UI frameworks, and deployment lifecycle.

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and people management capabilities across distributed global teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business stakeholders.
  • Strategic mindset with strong problem-solving, prioritization, and delivery focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across HR, IT, and business leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workday certifications in Integration, Extend, and Prism Analytics.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) or cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure).
  • Experience in enterprise-scale digital transformation initiatives.
  • Background in Agile development or DevOps practices for Workday.
  • Experience working with offshore managed services for development and support.

  • Product Development: Lead the product development process, defining product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Work with engineering teams to prioritize and execute product enhancements.
  • Product Launch: Plan and execute product launches, including developing go-to-market strategies, pricing strategies, and marketing campaigns. Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to ensure successful product introductions.
  • Product Metrics: Define and track key performance metrics for IT products, such as system uptime, reliability, performance, and user satisfaction. Use data-driven insights to drive product improvements.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the IT product budget, including resource allocation, cost control, and financial forecasting.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges associated with IT product development and deployment.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate the IT product vision, strategy, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and buy-in from all relevant teams.

Travel

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Field of Study: Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent job-related experience. PMI Certification is desired but not required.
Experience Requirements: 8+ years of experience in project management of varied complexities and scope.
