What's the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time scientist or engineer to join our offices in Syracuse, NY, or Bellingham, WA. The applicant will have 0-5 years of experience providing technical contributions to projects, using code to analyze environmental datasets, and supporting the development of mathematical (environmental) models. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to work on a variety of tasks of differing complexities, both independently and in team environments, and learn directly from leaders in the industry. We are interested in a candidate that has the capacity to grow, is a quick learner, is detail-oriented, is a committed team player, has a strong interest and experience in computer coding and related technologies, and possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:



  • Analyze and interpret environmental data using statistical, coding, and visualization tools including R and Python.
  • Develop and apply mathematical models, including preparing inputs, processing outputs, interpreting and presenting results, and communicating findings to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Support internal software and data resource development by becoming proficient in existing scripting tools and contributing to the design and maintenance of new tools, processes, and code libraries.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical documents, including sampling and analysis plans, remedial investigation and feasibility study reports, and data summaries.
  • May participate in field assignments for environmental sampling (soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water), equipment calibration, and data collection; fieldwork may account for up to 25% of time and include travel.



What Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will have the following:



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science, environmental or civil engineering, computer science, chemistry, mathematics or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • 0 to 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Proficiency in one or more scientific computing languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, Julia, C/C++, Rust) and related libraries such as Matplotlib, Tidyverse, NumPy, or Pandas
  • Familiarity with software development concepts such as DevOps, CI/CD, cloud computing, API integration, or open-source collaboration
  • Experience in applying statistical analysis and environmental modeling methods, particularly for contaminant fate and transport in aquatic systems
  • Exposure to in-water and upland remediation projects, including environmental sampling, data analysis, and feasibility studies; experience with contaminated sediments preferred
  • Strong technical writing skills for planning documents and regulatory reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • ArcGIS experience a plus
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (preferred; may be provided upon hire)
  • Ability to travel for field projects (up to 25%, depending on location and project needs)

Salary and Other Compensation:



  • Salary Range: 72,000 - $80,000
  • Annual Bonus
  • Other potential bonus types: Billable Time Bonus, Spot Bonus, Milestone Anniversary Bonus, Receiving Professional License/Certification Bonus, Peer-reviewed Publication Bonus, Employee Referral Bonus.



Base Level Benefits for Regular Full-Time Positions:
