POSITION SUMMARY
  • Using various technologies; to include drones as well as traditional surveying tools, provide surveying support for Georgia operations Area. This includes maintaining survey control for drilling, locating utilities, surveying locations of fixed equipment structures, verifying stockpile volumes, clean fill topographical surveys as well as other various surveying related activities.
  • Preparing mine emergency maps.
  • Keeping up with comparative mine statistics.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of mining and production techniques and equipment, safety and environmental regulations (MSHA and OSHA), equipment application and operation, material specifications, and surveying.
  • Strong communication skills, self motivation and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution.
  • Ability to plan and manage effectively.
  • Must represent VMC in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal personnel.
  • Knowledge of AutoCad, mine planning software, and the use of drones, survey instruments, calculations, and practices.
Mental Requirements
  • Ability to work in a very stressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making.
  • Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Motivated, team-oriented, and dedicated to the discipline.
Tools and Equipment Used
  • Drone equipment along with the associated computer applications and peripherals to accomplish aerial mapping and surveying.
  • Motorized vehicles, computers, various styles of surveying equipment, telephones, fax machines, and cell phones
Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical Degree in Surveying with 0 - 3 years experience in mining and surveying.
  • High school diploma or the equivalent with 3 - 5 years experience in surveying and mapping
  • Currently hold (or ability to acquire) FAA Drone License

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Use of telephone, computers, cell phones and other electronic devices is essential.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to drive a pick-up truck on a daily basis; there may be a periodic need to travel by airline.
  • Must have the ability to use computerized equipment and technology
